Jean-Paul-Riopelle and his place

The Jean-Paul-Riopelle Square is located in front of the InterContinental Montreal. Jean-Paul Riopelle (1923-2002) was one of Québec’s greatest painters, engravers, and sculptors. During the 1950s, he won praise in both Europe and America. He won numerous international prizes throughout his career. The public square named for Jean-Paul Riopelle was created in 2004. La Joute, the sculpture-fountain created by Jean-Paul Riopelle in 1969, was moved to the place bearing the great Quebec artist’s name. A sculpture of Jean-Paul Riopelle, created by Roseline Granet, also stands in the public square.
